The challenge

Bray Leino is an integrated communications company that has undergone rapid growth in recent years, partly through acquisition. This brings with it its own challenges, and the leadership team wanted a programme that would really challenge their current thinking.

They asked us to help them create a strategy for future growth and develop a leadership programme for the top 10% of their organisation that would help them achieve their long-term objectives.

We helped the management team achieve clarity on where it wanted the business to go by working with the team to create a new company vision and values. We also looked at the behaviours it would need from its people to fulfil these objectives.

We then created a three-day leadership event that brought together external best practice, experiential learning and leading-edge tools and thinking.

Our approach

In practice

We brought in speakers from dynamic businesses like the Eden Project as well as case studies from creative hothouses like Pixar in California. The hands-on learning was at Fifteen Cornwall, which saw the team take the company's new values and put them into practice in another setting.

We often find that people understand new concepts intellectually, but when they try and put them into practice they can revert to type. At Fifteen, they saw for themselves how they could work differently, by being open to challenge and to new ways of working. We had the team coach itself too, to bring out how they would bring the new vision to life across the whole business.

Cumulatively, these things were designed to give the leadership the skills, knowledge and behaviours to take the organisation forward. Following the event, we supported each of the leaders with one-to-one coaching as they delivered the programme to their own teams.

The team was able to integrate its new values and behaviours into all aspects of how they do business and Bray Leino continues to go from strength to strength. The leadership team was inspired by having a new vision for the business and motivated to adopt the new behaviours they would need to drive the business forward.
